AMERICAN FEDERATION OF BANKS
- FELABAN
"The Latin
American Federation of Banks
-FELABAN- is a nonprofit organization
constituted in 1965 in the city
of Mar del Plata, Republic of
Argentina.
Through its members
- Banking Associations and other
Organizations in 19 countries
of the continent - it is integrated
by more than 600 Latin American
financial institutions.
Objectives of the Federation
a)
To promote and facilitate the
contacts, understanding, and
relationships among the Credit
Institutions in Latin America.
b)
To contribute, through its technical
services, to the coordination
of criteria and the standardization
of banking uses and practices.
c)
To cooperate, within the scope
to its particular activities,
to the economic development
of the Latin American countries
and the economic integration
that they seek.
d)
To use all the means
at its disposal to promote the
development and well-being of
the countries where its members
are established.
The Latin American Federation
of Banks is superseded by its
Council of Governors and its
Steering Committee.
Services
Training
The Latin American Federation
of Banks offers training through
three different programs:
Congresses
and Technical Meetings
With the support of the different
Technical Committees, the following
congresses are held:
The
Latin American Congress on Banking
Automation
Since 1969, this congress is
held every two years in different
cities of the region. Its objective
is that of keeping the Latin
American financial sector up
to date on the latest technological
developments in computer systems
and electronic data management.
For this purpose, the Congress
has an intensive program including
lectures and seminars which
a wide service, equipment, and
exhibits area.
Latin
American Congress on Foreign
Trade
The objective of this congress
is to analyze money exchange
and exports techniques and to
discuss trade and financial
integration schemes and foreign
markets development. It also
serves to expand corresponding
contacts, conduct business,
and facilitate rapport among
bankers working in international
areas of Latin American financial
entities through business rounds.
This event is held annually.
Latin
American Congress on Bank Marketing
This event, held once a year,
is oriented at studying the
latest marketing tools and techniques.
It has also paid special attention
to the study of cases or experiences
of Latin American financial
institutions in this field.
Latin
American Congress of Banking
Law
The accelerated rate of change
in the financial sector requires
an equally fast change in legal
institutions, in legislative
techniques, in the interpretation
of standards, and in the doctrinal
and legal management of events
that are totally new for the
legal expert.
Each year at a different places,
over one hundred lawyers have
been able to exchange impressions
and come to major agreements
on the most diverse legal and
financial matters.
Latin
American Congress of Experts
in Banking Security
The Latin American Federation
of Banks holds annual Banking
Security Meetings to discuss
modern criminal techniques,
exchange impressions on the
most effective means of control
and repression of banking crime,
and to establish common means
of information and defense.
Latin
American Congress on Trusts
Also on an annual basis this
event is held in different Latin
American cities for the study
and development of this important
financial tool.
Latin
American Congress of Internal
Auditors
With the reactivation of the
Latin American Technical Committee
of Internal Auditors, this annual
event has been regularly held
gathering specialist in this
field to update them on the
latest state of the art control
and management techniques.
Annual
Assembly of the Latin American
Federation of Banks
This 2-day event is usually
held in November. In addition
to an interesting academic program,
it includes two business rounds
with the bankers attending it.
It is also the time of the meeting
of the Council of Governors,
FELABAN's highest governing
organ, where the policies of
this organization are defined
and established.
Seminarys
FELABAN responds to requests
for specific training courses
and refresher seminars on different
financial subjects, and to those
included in the annual program
of its members, it promotes
courses and seminars conducted
by banking training institutions
of its member entities.
Practical
Training Programs or Fellowships
With its members, or with financial
entities directly, and thanks
to its contacts with the American
Bankers Association, the Bank
Marketing Association, and the
European Management and marketing
Association, FELABAN coordinates
practical training courses of
fellowships for Latin American
bankers in banks within the
region or abroad.
Consulting
and Advisory Services
The Latin American Federation
of Banks has a comprehensive
register of specialist from
Latin America and elsewhere
knowledgeable in different financial
areas such as automation, safety,
change, marketing, financial
reference centers, strategic
planning, data and risk centers,
foreign trade, and legal matters,
allowing it to offer and coordinate
these services.
